Our client is recruiting for a Transport Manager. This person will be responsible for directing, coordinating, planning and overseeing all of their transportation activities.
They will be responsible for reviewing current transport arrangements, analysing their effectiveness and developing proposals for a refreshed approach which maximises cost and time efficiencies.
The key focus will be ensuring that customers get a quality service and prompt delivery and that the costs of the transport unit are closely managed and monitored and that drivers are efficiently deployed.
To succeed in this role, you should have thorough knowledge of supply chain management and an understanding of warehouse procedures, including storing goods, dispatching orders and tracking transportation vehicles. You should also be familiar with safety processes and legal regulations.
MAIN DUTIES
- Review of current transport provision with a particular emphasis on costs, efficiency of routes and driver utilisation.
- Monitoring and reporting on transport division KPIs, tracking the impact of operational improvements and liaising with other departments to get feedback.
- Management of transport team including feedback, reviews, dealing with personnel issues and developing staff.
- Dispatch management, organising delivery schedules and route planning ensuring efficient and effective route planning.
- Daily inspection of vehicles, organising regular scheduled maintenance and arranging repairs.
- Ensuring that all drivers and operators have the correct, up to date qualifications.
- Ensure that drivers comply with the drivers’ hours and working time rules.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable laws (for example, environmental and vehicle safety regulations) and keeping abreast of new legal developments affecting the transport sector
- Maintaining and completing accurate records of routes, loads and customers.
- Supervise the loading of the vehicle so that products are safely loaded and secured to minimise chances of damage.
- Working with drivers and clients to resolve any delivery issues or customer complaints.
- Building and maintaining excellent working relationships with clients
- Managing running costs and vehicle replacement cycles.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, to include the Company Standards of Performance and Health and Safety Policy.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Ensure that drivers tachograph cards are downloaded weekly and vehicle units downloaded every 28 days and records checked for infringements and the required action taken. Records should be made available for inspection upon request.
- Ensure that a proper system of vehicle maintenance is in place, as stipulated in the undertakings of the O licence, and carried out, and that all vehicles are kept in a roadworthy condition.
- Ensure that all daily walk round checks are completed by drivers and regular checks are made and recorded.
- Ensure that deliveries run to schedule and that the schedule is as efficient as possible.
- Review any shortcomings such as prohibitions and/or annual test failures.
- Ensure that relevant changes are notified in accordance with operator licence requirements.
- Ensure that drivers are trained and competent to operate all relevant vehicles and equipment.
- Ensure that all required records are made properly and kept for the required period.
- Act as part of the Leadership Team supporting and implementing Company initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with other sites and units.
- Managing and monitoring budget and spend.
- Ensure that the team follow company policies and procedures.
- Effectively manage and develop direct reports, completing regular performance reviews, tackling any developing issues and encouraging personal development.
REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING
- Experience of managing a team
- Knowledge of transport methods, costs, and benefits
- Good numeracy and literacy skills
- Organised, analytical, with good attention to detail.
- Ability to work well with others and effectively resolve issues.
- An understanding of the law relating to drivers’ hours regulations and tachograph.

Salary: £35,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
